For the Love of Kites!

Kites have played an interesting role in many societies and nations of the world for thousands of years.  Kites have been used as:

  • cultural symbols and canvases for artistic expression,
  • instruments of science, technology and war,
  • pastimes and amusements for young and old alike,
  • a pursuit for serious hobbyists.

VintageBoy.gifAll of these applications have ensured that kites have endured around the world over the course of time.

This site combines detailed information and resource material about kites and a web log (Blog).  The information section of the web site outlines material in a categorical framework.  This is intended to provide an overview of kites, their uses and history,  and some information on how they fly. Links to interesting sites are also provided.

The web log (Blog), My Journal Best-Breezes,  is more current, topical and eclectic.  Categories for the Blog entries help visitors to find related materials and to make links with the Internet resources I have found to be useful.  Where possible, I also reference journals, books and original source documents that have helped in the preparation of the Blog entries. The Blog entries contain current personal thoughts and ramblings about my kite research, kite history, kite building projects, kite friends and kite events.

Hopefully, the combination of these two kinds of kiting information in one source will interest you.  My goal is to promote an understanding of kites and why theyare fascinating to so many people.

Perhaps some of this information will add to your background knowledge or will lead you to  build a kite for yourself or for a child. At the very least, I hope you enjoy your stay and return often!  If you have a question or a comment please feel free to write to me.

Sincerely, Hifliercanada
